Welcome to Students, Parents and Others
interested in Buncombe County Early College

How To Apply to Early College (click here) or keep reading below:

Applicants must be 8th graders and current residents in a Buncombe County Schools district. All BCS 8th grade students will be coming to visit Early College during the spring semester. Home-schooled and private school students may download a brochure from our website or contact their district school to ask about attending the student presentations.

Interested students can then pick up a brochure from their teacher or school counselor after the visit to take home to their parents. The brochures will soon be available on our website.

Applications are given out at the parent meetings and cannot be obtained in any other manner. The due date for submission will be printed on the application; late applications are not processed.

Mandatory evening parent presentations are held in each home district:

All applicants and their parents must attend a parent meeting in any district to be included in the selection process.

2017 Parent Nights (must attend one):
(parents may attend any meeting in any district)

North Buncombe Middle:  2/16/17, 6pm
Owen Middle:                  2/23/17, 6pm
Valley Springs:                2/23/17, 6pm
Enka Middle:                   3/2/17, 6pm
Erwin Middle:                  3/7/17, 6pm
Cane Creek:                    3/13/17, 6pm
AC Reynolds:                  3/13/17, 6pm

A list of all eligible applicants undergoes a random lottery. This lottery generates a list of 60 accepted students; all other applicants are placed on a waiting list.

The sixty students from the lottery are offered a spot in our upcoming 1st-year class. If any students decline, we use the waiting list to offer that spot to another applicant. Students who remain on the waiting list will be contacted at the end of their 9th grade year if we have any openings for the fall of their 10th grade year. This is the only transition time that we offer available spots to new students, and only students on our original waiting list are eligible for these openings.

Applications will be available at the Parent Nights.  If a scheduling conflict exists regarding the Parent Night, please call BCEC before the date of the Parent Night.  Charter School, Private School and Home School students and parents must attend any of the Parent Nights listed below.

Caitlyn Kuhn
Caitlyn Kuhn

Congratulations to Caitlyn Kuhn, who was the youngest ever to pass the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society Radiology Technician certification test.  She took the test after also having a didactic class for 2 days and logging 40 assisted X-rays of the foot and ankle. Caitlyn spent time last year volunteering with local podiatrists to complete these X-rays.  We are very proud of Caitlyn for this achievement as she works toward a health career goal in the future!
