Our School
The Southern Association of Schools and Colleges and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction accredit Charles D. Owen High School. Approximately 800 students are enrolled. The Owen High School faculty number is 64 with 39% of the staff holding advanced degrees. All faculty members are instructing within their area of certification with an average of 15 years of teaching experience. Our Warhorse and Warlassie athletic teams number 18 and participate in 2-A division competition.
Swannanoa Valley Community
The Charles D. Owen High School district is located in the Swannanoa Valley, 12 miles east of Asheville. It includes one high school, one middle school, three elementary schools and one alternate school. Approximately 14,000 people live in this rural community and earn their livelihood in professional, high technology, manufacturing and agricultural careers.
Our Extended Community
The Buncombe County School System consists of six comprehensive high schools (grades 9-12), seven middle schools, 23 elementary schools and three special needs schools making it the eighth largest public school system in North Carolina. Located in Western North Carolina, Asheville/Buncombe is noted for its diversity in the areas of cultural arts, higher education and environmental resources, which include Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Tourism and industry is the mainstay of the area’s economic base.
